Pull out the shower faucet cartridge. A single-handle shower faucet works using a cartridge. Latch onto the nut at the bottom of the metal stem with a deep well socket wrench. Screw off the nut and put it to the side. Pull out the cartridge. Loosen the cartridge using needle-nose pliers to get it out.
Turn On Water. Make sure the handle is in the off position, then turn on the water by turning the knob under the sink counter clockwise. To test to make sure the leak is fixed, turn on the water and let it run for a minute. Turn it off and check if the faucet is still leaking. If the faucet is still leaking, you might have another issue.
Remove the ring and be sure to note the orientation of the plastic pivot-stop ring in any keyway in the faucet body. This ring will orient the movement of the handle. Remove the stem washer. With these parts removed, you should now see the retainer nut that holds the cartridge in place. Remove the retainer nut.
